Is this you?

You’re ready to woodshed and generate a whole new kind of writing!

You’ve fallen off your writing path and feel the need for more accountability, structure, and support around your writing or creativity.

You struggle with writer’s block, perfectionism, fear, shame around sharing your work, procrastination, or self-criticism.

You grapple with creative shame and the “vulnerability hangover”.

Your early work was rejected by an authority figure, or you were harshly critiqued in your arts education or academia.

You’re finally ready to write that poem, tell your story, but you don’t even know where to start. Or maybe you can’t get past chapter 5 of your book and you’re stuck.

You’ve put your creativity on hold due to life’s obligations. You’ve been avoiding the creative process, even though it constantly calls to you.

You want to learn practical tools and strategies that will help you follow through on your creative dreams and goals.

You’re ready to blow the rust off of your creative process, access the great volcano of imagination inside of you, and generate a TON of new writing!

Oi! You just want your art back. Right?

If you suffer from any of the above, you are not alone! I too have struggled with obstacles and a painful vulnerability around writing. I also love helping artists free themselves from “creative shame.” Creative shame withers away in an atmosphere of acceptance and safety, and so creating safety, from both inside and out, is essential to the process of Writing from the Top of Your Head.

Writing from the Top of Your Head - for beginning through experienced writers.

Writing from the Top of Your Head is inspired by Emily Dickinson, who wrote “If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry”.

The course is for writers who want to generate fresh material, feel stuck and struggle with writer’s block, or for those who have always wanted to write but are too afraid to start.

With the aid of the online program, you will be guided, in a criticism-free environment of support and safety, to “open the tops of your head” to access your inner voices without censoring or judging.

Through evocative writing prompts, your inner hooligan and nonsense-maker will be given room to shine and shout. The wild place is most exciting! You will have loads of fun!

You will also benefit from learning invaluable brain-training tools and strategies that will help you move through your creative life with grace and resilience, and attain the freedom on the open page that you’ve been longing for.

Warning: Goofy TOYS are used in all Writing from the Top of Your Head workshops! Yes you can play! You have permission...

Play heals trauma, unwinds academic conditioning, makes us laugh and helps us endure the strife in this world. PLAY is our fundamental right. It's who we are. Adults need it SO badly. We can reclaim and return to this knowing. Play helps you find awe, surprise, and freedom. And from THAT launching place, you can move forward with a whole new relationship to your writing and creativity.

“Nina is THE BEST! And her gatherings truly bring out the best in all of us.” ~Sage Wheeler

A note from Nina on unlearning.

You may have found yourself drawn to this work because you’ve had experiences that have caused you to shut down your creative expression. This perfectionism can be so deadening to our creative spirit!

My deepest wish is for you to start healing from this heartbreak and perfectionism, and reclaim your most true expression of YOU.

In order to do so, there's a deep unwinding and an unlearning that needs to take place.

My aim is to help you unwind and unlearn to WRITE.

To help you unlearn what you have learned about being a “good” writer and artist in order to return to that childlike state of play and unbound imagination.

So you can find your own kind of “outsider writing.” So you can find the writing that is true to you and only you.

And it's from THIS place that YOUR real writing can begin!

So, come along with us on a one-of-a-kind, wild, playful, entertaining + unlearning adventure with me and a group of fellow travelers.

I'd love to have you join us for a special 8 weeks of brave experiments in fiction and form -

Writing from the Top of Your Head's group writing + coaching program.

“I feel I have opened something huge in this one course. This is the best thing that has ever happened in my creative life."

-Flora Le

“The content and material ALONE in this course is rich and deep enough to bring someone through substantial, substantive transformation not only in their creative lives, but in their lives, period. The hidden little traumas in all of us creatives get tweaked and exposed and witnessed in the process of these brilliantly diagnosed exercises that are laser-precise in what, where, and how they touch these places.”

-Karuna Haber

“Reconnecting with my creativity and finding my way back to writing have led me into a fuller, more engaged life. Writing is my spiritual practice. I didn’t recognize I was missing spiritual practice until I found it again - it is sacred ground. I’m forever grateful to grow here.”

- Elizabeth Shepley
